SEL information processors enable you to design and implement both simple and complex intelligent electronic device (IED) integration solutions. Supported peer-to-peer technologies include SEL’s patented Mirrored Bits® communications and IEC 61850.

Real-Time Automation Controller

The RTAC can act as a data concentrator by using protocols such as IEC 61850 MMS client, Modbus®, DNP3, IEC 61850 GOOSE or MIRRORED BITS® communications to integrate both serial and Ethernet IEDs. Enable logging on any system or IED tag to view and archive a station-wide event record.

The RTAC Ethernet connection provides a means to remotely access the system to monitor logs and diagnostics. First establish a remote connection with any IED connected to the RTAC through Engineering Access communications channels. Then use the ACSELERATOR QuickSet® SEL-5030 Software suite to manage protection and control settings for these relays remotely.

 

 IED Integration

IEC 61850

IEC 61850 was created to be an internationally standardized method of communication and integration and to support systems built from multivendor intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) that are networked to perform protection, monitoring, automation, metering, and control. Combine IEC 61850 technology, Ethernet networking, and SEL high reliability to perform station computing and protection, automation, and control for distance, current differential, distribution, transformer, bus, motor, and bay control applications.

SEL Mirrored Bits Communications

SEL developed Mirrored Bits communications to provide high-speed, secure, point-to-point communication of real or virtual contact-status bits. Protection applications include directional element-based bus protection and replacement of tone-channel equipment for communications-assisted blocking, unblocking, permissive, and transfer trip schemes. Automation applications include high-speed sectionalizing, restoration and interlock schemes, and replacement of large bundles of field wiring with several small optical fibers, lowering costs and improving reliability.

SEL-3505/SEL-3505-3 Real-Time Automation Controllers (RTACs)

Suitable for use in utilities and industrial environments, the SEL-3505/3505-3 Real-Time Automation Controllers (RTACs) are a lower voltage version of the SEL-3530 RTAC. The SEL-3505/3505-3 RTACs are compact and deliver all the standard features of an RTAC, making them excellent options for protocol conversion and secure communication when space is limited.

SEL-2595 Teleprotection Terminal

Securely transfer contacts through high-speed IEEE C37.94 optical fiber interface. Use the SEL-2595 Teleprotection Terminal to send and receive up to eight relay contacts directly over a pair of optical fibers or through a digital T1 or SONET multiplexer.

SEL-2100 Logic Processor

The SEL-2506 Rack-Mount Remote I/O Module has eight digital inputs, eight digital outputs, and a fiber-optic communications port. Connect an SEL-2506 to a fiber-optic port or transceiver on a protective relay to add digital I/O. Or, wire the SEL-2506 I/O to relay I/O to add SEL Mirrored Bits® teleprotection.
